Blog project 5

After viewing my blog project one last time, overall I felt this was a great learning experience for me personally. As someone who has never blogged before this project, I learned that blogging can not only be a great way to communicate socially, but it can also be a very beneficial learning resource as well. I feel this project was definitely worthwhile and a great learning tool in regards to this class. It makes me realize that there are many aspects to journalism that I would not have utilized.

I think overall this project has supported my thesis throughout. I rate it a 4.

Blog project 4

1.) information blog: www.foia.blogspot.com . This website is run by a non-profit organization working to improve public access to official information and ensure that the Freedom of Information Act is implemented effectively.

2.) vanity blog: www.parishiltonlookalike.com/blog . This blog is about a girl named Natalie Reid who obviously is a Paris Hilton impersonater. It shows pictures of her and talks about her "celebrity" appearances.

I think blogging supports both of these types of journalism because blogging enables the reader to gain specific information rather than in print media. A good information blog should be informative but not biased. A good vanity blog is really just information on the person the blog is about. I suppose there are some people who will find that interesting.

The information did support my thesis. I rate it a 4.

Blog project 3

1.) The news e-zine I found is http://www.opendemocracy.net/ . They are committed to human rights and democracy. They aim to ensure that marginalised views and voices are heard. They believe facilitating argument and understanding across geographical boundaries is vital to preventing prejudice.

2.) The news blog I found is www.topix.com/news/blogs . News stories continually updated from thousands of sources around the net.

These were both very easy to find on the Internet. The e-zine was easy to navigate and they offer a spectrum of ideas, from people who have actually lived through the events. I loved that they have what they call the 50-50 initiative. It builds a series of editorial projects designed to make open democracy a current affairs forum which is written, read, and used by women and men equally. You have the ability to challenge authors, question visitors, and express views in forums.
The news blog features top stories , local and international, politics, sports, and entertainment. They had a feature called the "News Wire", it lists all the latest results that are categorized as blog news. In their "news forum", readers can comment on a range of topics and give their views on other blogs as well.
Both sites covered the same topics and gave readers the opportunity to post their own opinions as well, but I much more preferred the e-zine. It was more effective and looked more professional. The news blog seemed unorganized and had too much going on, because of that reason, I would be more likely to trust the e-zine. In conclusion, I found both sites to be very interesting and educational but I have to admit I will probably stick to the television or newspaper for credible news.

I believe it still supports my original thesis, therefore I rate it a 5.

Blog project 2

Part 1: One other entrepreneurial blog: www.tibcoblog.com
This website provides customer service, daily blogs, and offers many different types of services.

Part 2: Two Internet sources: www.businesslogs.com , discusses strategies on how to market your business using blogs. Lists different pointers and techniques for attracting more traffic.

www.siliconvalleywatcher.com , Tom Foremski writes an article stating,"Blogging is by far and away the most honest form of self-promotion out there...". With interviews from businessmen who have created their own blogs for entrepreneurial reasons. Tom Berquist, created one of the first CFO blogs and Roger Ehrenberg, president of Monitor110.

Other options an entrepreneur could use to market themselves to their audience are networking events, such as trade shows or chamber of commerce. Direct mail, like brochures or postcards. Speaking engagements, seminars, and lectures. Writing articles, press releases, asking for referrals and even working for charitable events.

A blog has many advantages for self-promotion, it is virtually free. It can reach a very large audience in the millions and you can work from home. I think that blogs in conjunction with these other methods, are great ways to self-promote. I think that Jen Weiner is very smart in the way she markets herself. Obviously blogging is a great way for her to stay in touch with her readers and keep them updated, but that is not her only means of marketing. She goes on book signings, talk shows, and has her own website that sells merchandise, plus her blog. The fact that she is also on the New York Times bestseller list gives her a lot of credibility as well. I think when it comes to marketing, you shouldn't just use one medium, you will be more successful if you utilize many.

The research material I found did support my original thesis and I have made no changes in my opinion. I will rate it a 5.

Blog project 1

My name is Janet, I am new to blogging but I can already understand how blogging can significantly impact the print journalism industry in many ways. Nowadays, people are so frantic, everything is fast-paced. We are always "on the go". In this digital age we have access to information in seconds, whether it be in the car or in your living room. We have the internet on our computers, cell phones, at work and at home. The need to get your news from a newspaper or magazine isn't necessary anymore. Journalists don't even need to go out to get the facts, they do most of their own research on the internet. Even small town papers, like The Bedale Times, The Lincoln Chronicles, and Glasgow East Herald are closing down because of loss of revenue due to lack of subscriptions. Blogging is a fast and easy way to gain facts, share opinions and debate. Any average person can be their own journalist and reporter. For me, it somewhat takes away from the art of journalism.
